SIDE-EFFECT RHYMEBOOK: Cardiovascular

ABSTRACT:
It took a long time and a lot of feedback, but part 1 of the Side Effect Rhymebook project is complete!

This rhymebook is focused on the main classes of medicines used to manage and treat the cardivascular system:
'statins', calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, beta blockers, alpha-adrenoceptor blockers, loop diuretics, thiazide-like diuretics, potassium sparing diuretics, anti-platelets and anti-coagulants.
DISSCUSSION AND RESULTS:
I started the rhymebook project after revisiting my clinical knowledge and noticing how much I wasn't using on a daily basis.
This made it hard to recall specific advice and counselling points when patients came for help with an unpopular medicine.
So to rebuff my skills, and in preparation for uni, I thought it would be fun to create and illustrate a side effect rhymebook.

The ideas in the rhymebook are shaped by the way I learn - visually. Some images or phrases came to mind instinctively when thinking about a class of medicine or its common side effects, and I followed those threads.
The designs are a mix of mnemonics, links and exaggerations. That spontaneous connection between visual, lyrical, and clinical information has made it easier for me to recall and it has already helped me remember that 'loops lose salts' in practice.

The vision for the project is to cover every body system and see it help others to learn.
